I am sorry to say that some friends and I planned a tour of the Greek Isles last November. We will be gone all of September. I am sorry to miss the reunion once again but am so happy to have had the chance to see Larry, Bonnie and especially Nancy when I was home two weeks after the last reunion. I doubt if anyone is interested and this largely old news but here is what is going on in my life.

I retired from teaching in Schaumburg, IL in 2002. I moved out to Portland, OR then. I started volunteering at an immigrant and refugee center shortly after my move. That led to substitute teaching English at the center and then a part-time job. I now teach refugees English who are not literate in their own language. I have students from Somalia, Burma, Bhutan, Ethiopia and Iraq. I only teach 2 hours a day four days a week, and I can get a sub whenever I want. Really, it is very rewarding and convenient.

Other than that I love living in the center of a small, big city. I probably put gas in my car 4 times a year. I enjoy all the arts and wonderful restaurants. I have a former student who lives here with her husband and two children and I get to go to all the recitals, sports games and graduations, etc. I am the token grandparent.

I want to wish all of you my very best and again I am sorry not to be able to attend the reunion in September.

All my best to everyone, Jan
